Normal is considered 120/80 or less. High blood pressure is considered when it starts to rise to the 130/80 and higher level. It’s considered a hypertension (high blood pressure) crisis when it reaches 180/120.
Hypertension can increase one’s risk of heart attack, stroke, aneurysm, heart failure, vascular diseases and cognitive issues, including dementia.
Physicians consider it low blood pressure (hypotension) when it reads 90/60 and lower, and it can cause dizziness, weakness, faintness and increases the risk for falls. If it becomes extreme enough, low blood pressure can deprive the body of adequate oxygen, damaging the heart and brain.
