Chi Medical Library at McLaren Greater Lansing

McLaren Greater Lansing has a reputation of being first in many medical achievements. One of those achievements was none other then the family's name after which our library is dedicated. The CHI Memorial Medical Library now echoes both the hospital and the Chi family's example of excellence in offering many new resources and concepts at consumer's fingertips.

John W. Chi was the son of Drs. Seong and Kiwhan Oh Chi. Dr. Seong Chi performed the first open heart surgery at McLaren Greater Lansing in the mid-1960's. John spent much of this life in the shadow of McLaren Greater Lansing, distinguishing himself as a scholar and athlete. The dedication plaque at the library entrance reads: "His eloquence was in his living and giving of himself to others. John Chi was 20 when he died in an automobile accident in 1976. The Library was dedicated as the John W. Chi Memorial Medical Library on Sept. 10, 1976
