Several McLaren hospitals recognized for excellence in rural health care

McLaren Health Care, the fully integrated health care delivery system with hospitals and medical campuses throughout the state, has had several of its hospitals recognized by the Chartis Center for Rural Health with Performance Leadership Awards for their performance in caring for smaller communities, where residents have traditionally encountered barriers when needing care.

The Performance Leadership Awards are based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, described by the national organization as “the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance.”

The Performance Leadership Awards complied by Chartis include:

Excellence in Outcomes

  • McLaren Central Michigan (Mount Pleasant)
  • McLaren Lapeer Region

Excellence in Quality

  • McLaren Caro Region
  • McLaren Thumb Region (Bad Axe)

Being included on the Chartis list places the hospitals among the top 25 percent of rural hospitals in the country.

“I began my clinical career in practice at a rural hospital, and I have experienced firsthand the importance these facilities have for a community that might not have such convenient access to health care as other communities,” said Dr. Justin Klamerus, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. “The impact readily available care can have on a rural community is immeasurable, and I commend the teams at these hospitals for their lasting commitment and continuing dedication to their patients’ needs.”

INDEX data is relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations and state offices of rural health around the country to measure and monitor performance across several areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
